Eurasia Foundation Advisory Council Honorary Chairman, Martti Ahtisaari, Awarded Nobel Peace Prize

Martti Ahtisaari, Honorary Chairman of Eurasia Foundation’s Advisory Council and former President of Finland, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on December 10 in Oslo, Norway for more than 30 years of championing peace around the world. Mr. Ahtisaari received the Nobel gold medal, a diploma and $1.2 million in prize money at City Hall in front of an audience of approximately 1,000 guests, including Norway’s King Harald and Queen Sonja.
Mr. Ahtisaari was cited by the Nobel committee for having contributed “to a more peaceful world and to 'fraternity between nations' in Alfred Nobel's spirit," Reuters reported. The former president founded the Crisis Management Initiative in 2000 and currently serves as the Chairman of the Board. He has facilitated high level peace negotiations to manage conflicts in numerous countries, including Indonesia, Kosovo and Iraq.
Mr. Ahtisaari chairs the Advisory Council of Eurasia Foundation together with three other honorary chairs – former U.S. Secretaries of State Madeleine Albright, James A. Baker III and Lawrence Eagleburger. Eurasia Foundation would like to congratulate Mr. Ahtisaari on his outstanding achievement.
