Dr. Sergei Guriev is the Morgan Stanley professor of economics and the Director of the New Economic School (NES) in Moscow. Eurasia Foundation helped establish NES by awarding the university more than $1.5 million over its first seven years of operation.
In 2006, Dr. Guriev was selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. In 2000 and 2005, he was awarded the Gold Medal for Best Research in Development Economics by the Global Development Network.
Dr. Guriev has degrees in economics and applied math from the Russian Academy of Sciences. He received his M.Sc. from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and studied at the Department of Economics at M.I.T. in a one-year post-doctoral placement. In 2003, Dr. Guriev served as a visiting assistant professor at the Department of Economics at Princeton University and has been a research affiliate at the Centre for Economic Policy Research in London since 1999.
