Since 1994, Eurasia Foundation has awarded over 1,400 grants in Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus. Additionally, the Foundation created two new local organizations—the New Eurasia Establishment (NEE) in Belarus and the East Europe Foundation (EEF) in Ukraine.

EEF believes that societies function best when citizens actively participate in their communities through private enterprise, public advocacy or other forms of civic engagement. EEF programs promote corporate social responsibility; encourage local economic development and improve energy efficiency. EEF also gives small grants to innovative and deserving partners through an open door grant mechanism: unsolicited grant applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Successful applications are funded and benefit from EEF’s financial and operational support.

Nonprofit organizations represent one of the most effective vehicles for promoting civic engagement and building social capital in society. EEF focuses its work on strengthening these important institutions throughout Ukraine by building the capacity of local organizations to establish lasting partnerships and through grant programs and intensive technical assistance.

In Moldova, Eurasia Foundation organized the Coalition for Free and Fair Elections, which provides media oversight and parallel vote tabulations, as well as outreach and voter education during elections. Furthermore, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova is working with Eurasia Foundation to increase citizen participation in Moldova-EU relations and the implementation of the EU-Moldova Action Plan.

In Belarus, the Foundation created the first Western-style MBA program and NEE continues to support private enterprise development through business schools and assistance to start-up businesses.
