Sharing a Border, Cooperating on Education

Despite sharing a 2,600 mile border, cooperation between Russia and China has been surprisingly limited. However, leaders in both countries are coming to understand that they face common challenges. One such challenge is the development of an educated national workforce that can compete in the international labor market.

Working toward this common goal, an international conference hosted by Vladivostok State University marked the launch of a new program promoting Russian-Chinese cooperation in vocational education.

New Eurasia Foundation (FNE) will implement this new program with its partner, the Center for Russian Education Studies at the Central Academy for Pedagogical Research of the People’s Republic of China.

To improve the competitiveness of each country’s workforce, the program will establish vocational education centers in the key industrial districts of pilot territories in China and Russia.

The conference, Russian-Chinese Cooperation: Experiences in Institutional and Scientific Collaboration, took place in late September in Vladivostok.
