Eurasia Foundation has worked in Central Asia since 1993, investing more than $40 million to support local initiatives in areas including higher education, labor migration, independent mass media, rule of law, corporate social responsibility, community development, youth, handicrafts industry and ecotourism. In 2006, Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia (EFCA) was created to localize the Foundation’s operations and more closely align its work with that of local partners. Working to assure long-term sustainability of the non-profit sector, EFCA has helped more than a quarter of its Central Asian partners diversify their financial bases by attracting additional financial support from local and foreign sources.
The Foundation collaborates with donors and corporations working in the region, including AES Corporation, Philip Morris Kazakhstan, Chevron and ExxonMobil Kazakhstan Inc. and the governments of Australia, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Denmark, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland and the U.S.
