EFCA Promotes Local Transparency and Cooperation in Extractive Industry and Public Service Provision

In February 2012, EFCA launched a community-based program to improve cooperation and accountability between citizens and local government in the provision of quality public services, and to increase transparency, public confidence and mutual understanding in the extractive industry. EFCA is implementing this three-year project in selected communities and oblasts of Kyrgyzstan, with the support of the American people through USAID.

CF Eurasia Foundation of Almaty has changed locations from 10 Kurmangalieva to 7A Biokombinatskaya. CF Eurasia Foundation officially announces that those offices will be operational from March 26, 2012. All EFCA staff will be available on their EFCA email accounts during this period.

EFCA Increases Local Budget Literacy in Kyrgyzstan

For citizens, taking part in the development and monitoring of their local government budget offers a rare opportunity to have real influence on the way government works – grass roots democracy that delivers visible, practical benefits. EFCA delivered a four-day training course all 40 rural districts of Kyrgyzstan to give citizens the knowledge, understanding and confidence to exercise that power in their communities. And the results have been immediate. There is a real eagerness for this knowledge and the trainees were quick to see how they could use it.

Young Debaters Contribute to Increase of Access and Quality of Education

Public Foundation “Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia” under United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Education Loans Program organized the Second Annual National Debate Tournament entitled “Access to Quality Higher and Vocational Education through Financial Instruments,” which brought together 50 student teams from universities from throughout Kyrgyzstan. The tournament was organized in the American University of Central Asia in Bishkek on January 14-15, 2012.

EFCA Organizes Round Table to Discuss Internship Programs for Youth

On November 25, 2011 over 70 representatives of business, education, youth, and media organizations joined the round table entitled “The partnership of business and education through internship program” as part of the USAID’s “Loans for Education” program at the Hyatt Regency in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The round table was focused on the factors affecting the availability of internship opportunities as part of business structures development in Kyrgyzstan.
